Pet insurance companies, as some people know, provide very different levels of cover.
Unfortunately there are many people who really don’t know that going to a price comparison engine and selecting the cheapest policy they can find is not a good idea!
And those that do know that you need to choose your policy carefully often struggle to work out work out what cover is actually provided.
The purpose of our cover scores is twofold. Firstly to give you a quick indicator of the level of cover provided and secondly to act as starting point for you to go on to discover more about the strengths and weaknesses of any particular policy.
So every policy has been assessed in detail and an overall score produced. But we have also published scores for each section of the assessment. These sections are

Whilst we the overall score will give you some guide to the amount of cover provided we would highly recommend you then also check the scores for each section as some will be more important to you than others. For example if you never intend to travel abroad with your pet then it will not matter to you if the travel cover is poor.

The factors considered in each of the above sections are as follows:-

Type of dental cover provided, whether diet food covered and limits, whether pays for euthanasia, cremation/burial, length of time at the beginning of the policy before full cover is provided, whether includes exclusions for treatment of conditions caused by your pet being overweight, whether has cover limit restrictions on scans and/or cruciate ligament injuries, cancellation rights, any other unusual restrictions.
Amount of standard excess, availability of voluntary excess, amount of contribution (if any).
Age at which pet is treated as “older”. Whether and by how much premiums increase, excesses increase, contributions increase.
